Who we are
Mike Shady Bowling is a small coaching business run by Mike Shady, a USBC Hall of Famer and Team USA coach, based in the United States. This website, mikeshadybowling.com, is built and maintained for Mike by his website developer.
In this policy, "we," "us" and "our" mean Mike Shady Bowling, and "you" means anyone who visits the site or fills out one of its forms. Mike is responsible for the personal information collected through this site.
Questions or requests about your privacy? Email Mike at coachshady@gmail.com.
What we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us through a form, plus a small amount of technical information that every website needs to work and stay safe. There are no user accounts or logins on this site, no online store, and we never ask for payment card information.
Information you give us in our forms:
- Get notified: your email address, so we can let you know when the 2027 camp dates are posted. This is not a newsletter.
- Camp registration (once a camp has dates): the camp and session, the bowler's name and age, the parent or guardian's name (optional), an email address and phone number, an emergency contact's name and phone number, and an optional note. If you are registering a youth bowler, please use the parent's or guardian's own email address.
- Host Mike request: your name, email, phone number (optional), bowling center or organization, city and state, the type of event, your preferred dates and an optional message.
- Contact: your name, email, phone number (optional) and your message.
You never have to fill out a form. The fields not marked optional are the ones we need to reply to you, plan your event or hold a camp spot; without them the form can't be sent. Every form also sends the address of the page it was sent from and a hidden field that helps us catch spam bots.
Payments: there is no deposit or payment step on this site. If camp deposits are added later, you would pay on the payment provider's own page (Stripe or Square), not on our site, and that provider's privacy policy would apply.
Information collected automatically:
- Basic technical details: when your browser loads a page, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, receives standard information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for and the time. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and protect it, for example by limiting floods of requests.
- Spam check: every form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals from your browser and device to tell real people from bots. You can read how Cloudflare handles this in the Cloudflare Turnstile privacy terms (opens in a new tab).
- Cloudflare Web Analytics: counts page views without cookies. It does not identify you or follow you to other sites; we only see totals, like how many times a page was viewed.
- Google Analytics: only if you click Accept on our cookie banner. If you click Decline, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, it never loads.
- Cookies and local storage: your browser remembers your cookie banner choice, and Cloudflare may set a security cookie. Cookies and analytics below has the full list.
How we use it
We use your information only to reply to you, to run camps, lessons and events, and to let you know about camp dates. Here is each use, with its legal basis if you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom:
- To answer your questions and messages. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying to people who reach out to us.
- To handle camp registrations, follow up with you by email and run the camp, including reaching your emergency contact if there is an emergency. Legal basis: taking steps at your request and carrying out our agreement with you.
- To plan camps, clinics, training sessions and speaking engagements with bowling centers and organizations that send a Host Mike request. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before an agreement.
- To email you when the 2027 camp dates are posted, if you asked us to. Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing coachshady@gmail.com, and we will take you off the list.
- To keep the site and forms secure, stop spam and abuse, and fix problems. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe, working website.
- To see how the site is used through Google Analytics, only if you click Accept. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time through Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.
- To count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and shows us only totals. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are useful.
We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use it to show you ads. We do not send newsletters, and we do not use your information for automated decision-making.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Do Not Track (DNT) and Global Privacy Control (GPC) are settings in some browsers that tell websites you do not want to be tracked. We honor both.
If your browser sends either signal, we treat it as if you clicked Decline: the cookie banner is not shown and Google Analytics never loads. Cloudflare Web Analytics still counts page views, because it uses no cookies and does not identify you.
Under some US state laws, GPC is also a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising to begin with, and we also treat GPC as an opt-out of analytics.
If you click Accept, Google Analytics uses cookies to recognize your browser when you come back to this site, and Google may use that information as described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab). We do not let any other company use this site to collect information about you to follow you across other websites.
How long we keep it
- Form entries (the email to Mike and the row in the Google Sheet) are kept only as long as we need them for the reasons in How we use it, such as running a camp, staying in touch about camp dates or planning a return visit with a bowling center. Then we delete them.
- If you ask us to delete your information sooner, we will.
- Google Analytics (only if you clicked Accept): detailed visit data is deleted after 14 months. After that, only summary totals, like how many times a page was viewed, remain in our reports.
- Technical and security information handled by Cloudflare and Google is kept according to their own policies.
How we protect it
- The whole site uses HTTPS, so information you send is encrypted on its way to us.
- Only Mike and his website developer can see form entries.
- Every form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile and rate limiting to keep out spam and bots.
- There are no accounts or passwords on this site, and we never collect payment card information.
No website or email system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise that information will never be lost or seen without permission. If you think something is wrong, please email us right away.
Children's privacy
Mike coaches bowlers of all ages, and this site is for bowlers and their families. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
When a youth bowler signs up for a camp, the registration is made by a parent or guardian, and we ask parents and guardians to use their own email address.
Parents and guardians can ask to review or delete their child's information at any time by emailing coachshady@gmail.com. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information without a parent's involvement, let us know and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Ask what information we have about you, how we use it and who we share it with, and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Ask us to stop emailing you about camp dates: reply to any of our emails, or email coachshady@gmail.com any time.
- Opt out of analytics by clicking Decline, using Cookie settings, turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser, or using Google's opt-out add-on.
US state privacy laws: California and several other states have privacy laws that give residents rights over their personal information. Most of these laws only apply to much larger businesses, so a small business like ours may not be covered. We offer the rights listed above to everyone anyway, no matter which state you live in.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, use it for targeted advertising, or use it for profiling or automated decisions. In the categories California's law uses, we collect:
- Identifiers and contact details, like name, email address and phone number.
- Details you put in a form, like a bowler's age, an emergency contact, event details or a message.
- Internet activity, like pages viewed and, only if you click Accept, Google Analytics data.
We get this information from you and your browser. We use it only for the purposes in How we use it, and we disclose it only to the service providers in Who we share it with.
European Union and United Kingdom: you can also:
- Restrict or object to how we use your information, including uses based on our legitimate interests.
- Get a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Withdraw your consent at any time: for Google Analytics through Cookie settings, and for camp-date emails by emailing us. This doesn't affect anything that happened before you withdraw.
- Complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, that is the Information Commissioner's Office).
Canada: you can ask to access and correct your information, and you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada with concerns.
How to make a request: email coachshady@gmail.com and tell us what you would like. To protect your information, we may need to confirm it is really you, for example by asking you to reply from the email address you used on our form. Someone you authorize can also make a request for you, and we may ask for proof that you authorized them. We will reply as soon as we can, and within any time limit the law sets.
No discrimination: we will never treat you differently or charge you a different price because you used any of these rights.
International transfers
We are based in the United States, and our service providers, Cloudflare and Google, process information in the United States. They may also process it in other countries where they operate.
If you visit from the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada or another country, your information will be transferred to the United States, where privacy laws may be different from those where you live. Cloudflare and Google explain the safeguards they use for international transfers in their privacy policies.
Links to other sites
Our site links to other services that Mike uses. When you click through, you leave our site, and that service's own privacy policy applies. We don't control how they handle your information.
- YouCanBookMe: Mike's booking calendars. Booking happens on their site, not ours.
- Venmo: for paying for mental game training. Payment happens on Venmo, not on our site.
- YouTube: Mike's coaching videos.
- InsideBowling.com and the Backstage Bowling community on Facebook.
Online video lessons happen outside this site: the live session is on Zoom, and your results come through the OnForm coaching app. Each has its own privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If we make a big change, such as a new use of your information, we will also post a note about it on the site.
